Summary/Objective:
The Credit Specialist will assist with the management of the overall credit function to improve cash flow, reduce receivables and minimize bad debt risk. This position will contribute to the development of policies regarding the investigation of customers, extension of credit lines, and collections; work with current and future clients regarding their level of credit; and oversee negotiation and course of action for overdue accounts.

Essential Functions:

  • Evaluate potential customers’ creditworthiness
  • Monitors accounts receivable aging reports and is responsible for timely collections of customer accounts, reducing past due and bad debt exposures
  • Review Credit Applications to establish credit limits, including risk analysis
  • Analyze customer financial statements, bank, and trade references and DNB reports to evaluate creditworthiness of potential and existing customers
  • Interface and establish strong working relationships with our customers, sales, operations, and other departments to resolve billing, credit, and collection issues
  • Create and maintain a credit scoring model to assess risks
  • Prepare reports and present findings to senior management
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in credit management
  • Work closely with sales and customer service teams to ensure efficient and effective credit management
  • Monitor customer accounts to ensure payments are made on time and in accordance with established terms
  • Maintain a routine periodic and yearly review of all existing accounts to ensure accuracy of established credit limits
  • Establish credit limits and payment terms for customers based on their creditworthiness and payment history
  • Develop and implement credit policies and procedures to ensure customer creditworthiness and minimize risk of financial loss
  • Release orders on credit hold as needed
  • Responsible for the collections of past due accounts and the assessment of credit risk
  • Supervise team of 3 Collection Coordinators
  • Maintain and evaluate credit insurance requirements and update information as needed

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 5+ years of experience
  • Strong collections background with a customer service mindset
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office - Word, Outlook, Excel (VLOOKUP and Pivot tables),
  • Experience with Infor M3 preferred
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of credit laws and regulations
  • Experience in credit analysis, risk assessment, and collections
  • Leadership and team management skills
  • Ability to develop and implement credit policies and procedures
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Understanding of loans and lending procedures
