In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring food products are accurately labelled and in compliance with all US labeling regulations as mandated by FDA, Customs and USDA. You will support all regulatory-related activities, including but not limited to: researching industry updates pertaining to labeling compliance; supporting the review processes for packaging, marketing materials, and digital information.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Handle multiple label packaging projects, working cross-functionally, and execute responsibilities with a high degree of thoroughness.
  • Research and consult on food labels, packaging, and other forms of label copy and artwork to ensure regulatory compliance to federal regulations and policies.
  • Ensure advanced knowledge and understanding of relevant regulatory trends in nutrition, labeling, foods, and food standards.
  • Collect and review product specifications from overseas manufacturers. Validate ingredients, formulas, allergen statements, claims and nutrition information.
  • Update nutritional database and corresponding ingredient specification information using Genesis R&D software.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, minimizing risk as it relates to product claims.
  • Proof packaging artwork for accurate information at each stage in the design process (i.e. initial graphics review, printing, production, etc)
  • Update workflow software for label reviews, product reviews, and sign-off on processes needed by required business teams.
  • Maintain a system/database of final packaging and/or labels to include supporting documentation needed for compliance.
  • Clarify necessary revisions with global suppliers and ensure follow up through effective written and verbal communication.
  • Interface with customers’ QA and Regulatory departments, providing guidance, education and support. Review and validate food labeling and packaging claims.
  • Conduct finished product packaging audits against ingredient specifications, Genesis R&D, and label approvals.
  • Communicate up-to-date information of current US labeling and food product regulations to internal and external stakeholders.  
  • Create presentations and employee trainings, which may be featured in our Lunch and Learn series, on specific topics of importance.
  • Responsible for communicating and managing project timelines and needs, maintaining work to meet timelines
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Food Science or Related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of related experience in the food industry
  • Knowledge of FDA & USDA labeling regulations
  • Familiarity with researching FDA CFRs ; Standard of Identity, COOL labeling, Prop 65, BE, PFAS, Organic, Kosher, Allergen Labeling, etc.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe Acrobat; Genesis R&D software is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Trace Gains a plus.
  • Knowledge of customer private label portal programs a plus: EDGE, PROSPEC
  • Ability to prioritize workload, balance multiple tasks, and work independently
  • Strong proofreading/editing skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Possess strong organizational, analytical and time-management skills.
  • Experience working successfully within a time-sensitive, process-driven environment.
